Khamenei and Top Iranian Officials Killed.
Iranian state media confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on Saturday in a joint U.S.-Israeli air campaign. Reports also said his daughter, son-in-law, grandchild, and daughter-in-law died in the strikes.
U S and Israeli officials confirmed Khamenei’s death earlier in the day after photographs of his body were shown to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel also said the airstrikes on Khamenei’s fortified compound eliminated more than 40 senior Iranian security and regime figures.
Iran fired dozens of missiles at Israel and launched strikes on U S military bases across the Middle East, including in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, in retaliation.
President Trump described the operation as the opening phase of a campaign to devastate Iran’s military, dismantle its nuclear program, bring about regime change, and urged Iranians to “seize control of your destiny.”
According to Israel officials, “Operation Epic Fury” has been in the works for the past several months, highlighting what appears to be the Israel Defense Forces’ close cooperation with the U S.
Pentagon Bans Some Colleges for Military.
The Pentagon will forbid members of the military from attending Columbia, Yale, Brown, and other universities beginning with the 2026 2027 school year.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said on Friday that the universities had replaced "the study of victory and pragmatic realism with the promotion of wokeness and weakness."
In a video posted on social media, Hegseth said he would direct a formal “top to bottom” review of the U S war colleges to ensure they are “once again bastions of strategic thought, wholly dedicated to the singular mission of developing the most lethal and effective leaders and war fighters the world has ever known.”
War colleges provide professional military education to high-ranking officers, Pentagon civilians, and international partners, with a focus ranging from joint operations to national security and strategy.
List: Most Popular States for Migration.
South Carolina topped a list of the most desirable states among people considering a move.
The top 10 states included six in the South, two in the West, and one each in the Midwest and Northeast. Six offer coastal areas, including on the Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific coasts.
The study used online search data, move-in and move-out ratios, and population. Idaho, Alaska, and Maine—with more rugged conditions—each finished in the top five.
The Northeast region of the U S had the most states included in the bottom 10 in the migration-interest list, largely due to the high costs of living.

I will repeat the Trivia Question for today: What is the only word in the English language that ends with “mt”?
And the answer is: The only common English word that ends with “mt” is “dreamt,” which comes from the Old English “drēam,” meaning “joy” or “music.” The modern meaning, referring to thoughts experienced during sleep, emerged in Middle English. “Dreamt” is also unique for being the only word that ends with “eampt” in British English spelling.

Whatever Happened To...
Whatever Happened to Roller Rinks?
In the mid-20th century, roller rinks were a pillar of American recreation: big, bright rooms where teens flirted under fluorescent lights, families spent weekends, and whole communities gathered for lessons, leagues, and charity nights. Skating became a mainstream pastime—part sport, part social club, part inexpensive escape.
Then came the late-’70s glow-up: roller disco. DJs, mirror balls, light shows, short shorts, and the swagger of skating-to-the-beat turned rinks into nightlife. Movies, music, and celebrity scenes made skating look like the coolest thing you could do without a fake ID.
But trends turn. Disco cooled, and rinks ran into a pileup of practical problems, as this video outlines. Land values rose, making redevelopment tempting. New competitors—arcades, multiplexes, malls, then home entertainment—pulled attention indoors in different ways. And many operators point to rising insurance and liability costs as the quiet budget-killer that made the math stop working.
Still, the story isn’t just one of decline. Plenty of rinks hung on by evolving: birthday-party packages, arcades, laser-tag add-ons, adult nights, lessons, and niche communities like artistic skating and roller derby. In the 2020s, social media and a pandemic-era skating boom helped nudge the culture back into view.
Today, roller rinks are fewer than at their peak—but they’re still around, humming on weekend nights, doing what they’ve always done best: turning a simple loop around a wooden floor into a little world of its own.
Daily Quote.
"The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost and we may have casualties. That often happens in war. But we’re doing this not for now, we’re doing this for the future and it is a noble mission."

The Flyover Replay.
Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Good morning! On this day in 1861, President James Buchanan established the Colorado Territory in response to the significant influx of settlers to the Rocky Mountain region during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush.
Editor's note: The United States and Israel launched a joint military operation last night against Iran, striking multiple targets around 9 15 AM local time in Tehran. President Trump confirmed "major combat operations in Iran" in a video posted to Truth Social, and Israeli officials confirmed a preemptive strike.

Trump Bans Anthropic AI After Military Dispute.
President Trump on Friday ordered all federal agencies to immediately stop using Anthropic's AI technology, bringing an apparent end to a months-long dispute between the Pentagon and the company over military use of its systems.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had refused the Defense Department's demand for unrestricted use of its AI, insisting on safeguards against mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons, which the company considers firm red lines.
“I am directing EVERY Federal Agency in the United States Government to IMMEDIATELY CEASE all use of Anthropic’s technology. We don’t need it, we don’t want it, and will not do business with them again!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth followed by announcing Friday afternoon that the Pentagon would label Anthropic a supply chain risk to national security. The designation bans any contractor, supplier, or partner of the U S military from any commercial activity with Anthropic. Trump said agencies currently using Anthropic have six months to phase it out.
State Farm Sets Record 5 billion dollar Payback to Customers.
State Farm announced it will pay a record 5 billion dollar dividend to auto insurance customers this summer—the largest in the company's 103 year history, covering more than 49 million vehicles nationwide.
Payments to consumers will average about 100 dollars per vehicle, varying by state and premiums paid. Customers don't need to take action—they'll receive a check or email notification for digital payment, not a premium credit.
The dividend stems from stronger-than-expected underwriting performance in 2025. The move follows similar payouts from competitors, including USAA's 3.8 billion dollars and Progressive's 1 billion dollars in dividends to Florida customers only in 2025.
NASA Pushes Back Moon Mission.
NASA pushed back its planned manned moon mission, dubbed Artemis, by at least a year to 2028 as it announced a major overhaul of the Artemis moon program on Friday.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said the revised plan inserts a new Artemis 3 mission in 2027, where astronauts will dock with commercial landers from SpaceX and/or Blue Origin in low-Earth orbit to test critical systems before attempting a landing.
The restructuring follows a safety panel report warning that the original plan carried too many untested technologies and "firsts" for a single mission, recommending a more balanced risk approach.
Isaacman also announced NASA is aiming for up to two lunar landing missions in 2028, with annual flights thereafter. The last time men walked on the moon was in 1972.

I will repeat the Trivia Question for today: Where does the phrase “goody two-shoes” come from?
And the answer is: The phrase comes from the 1765 children’s book The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes, published by John Newbery. It refers to the fictional character Margery Meanwell, a poor orphan who excitedly celebrated getting a second shoe—earning her nickname “Goody Two-Shoes.” She later becomes a schoolteacher, marries a wealthy man, and uses her fortune to help the poor. The tale, reflecting the era’s taste for highly virtuous heroes, became a major bestseller and was widely reprinted.

FBI Employees Fired Over Classified Files Case.
FBI Director Kash Patel fired at least 10 FBI employees on Wednesday who were connected to the investigation into President Trump's handling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
The firings followed revelations that the FBI had subpoenaed phone records of Patel and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles while the two were private citizens during the Biden administration. Patel accused previous FBI leadership of using flimsy pretexts and evading oversight in its investigation.
The dismissed staff ranged from support personnel to agents and supervisors, all tied to former Special Counsel Jack Smith's classified documents probe.
The FBI Agents Association condemned the firings, saying they violate employees' due process rights and weaken the bureau by stripping away critical expertise.
Chain Stores Facing 2026 'Retail Apocalypse'.
Over 1,200 U S retail stores are slated to close in 2026, as major chains including Macy's, Pizza Hut, Kroger, Wendy's, and Saks Off 5th shutter underperforming locations in what experts are calling a retail apocalypse.
The closures follow a record-setting 2025, when thousands of U S stores permanently shut their doors. Rising operating costs, declining foot traffic, and the continued shift toward online shopping are driving the trend.
Other affected chains include Carter's, which plans to close 150 stores over three years; Yankee Candle, shuttering 20 locations; Rite Aid, closing all remaining stores after a second bankruptcy filing; and Amazon, which announced plans to shut down all 57 Amazon Fresh and 15 Amazon Go locations.
Forrester Research predicts the pressure on retailers will intensify, forecasting a bankruptcy wave among specialty retailers and a broader industry pivot toward profitability over expansion. AI-powered shopping tools and stricter digital return policies are also expected to reshape the sector.
Tech Companies Roll Out New Child Protections.
Tech companies are rolling out new safety measures aimed at empowering parents as a major ongoing trial in Los Angeles tests whether Meta and YouTube deliberately designed addictive platforms that harmed children's mental health.
Meta’s Instagram announced Thursday that it will soon alert parents when teenage children repeatedly search for content related to suicide or self-harm, part of Meta's latest effort to shore up safety features as it faces heat over how social media impacts young people.
Apple, meanwhile, launched a new age verification system for app downloads in several countries and U.S. states to comply with laws requiring users of certain apps to be at least 18.
Last week, testifying about child safety, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company isn’t seeking to make Instagram addictive to younger users, pushing back against claims that the app is designed to be harmful to children.

I will repeat the Trivia Question for today: Which state is home to the only Atlantic puffin colony in the U.S.?
And the answer is: For Atlantic puffins, the only state to find them is Maine. Atlantic puffins were once nearly extinct, but thanks to Project Puffin, which restored them to Eastern Egg Rock, these birds now thrive on Maine’s rocky islands. The best time to see them is from April to August when they return to breed. You can find large colonies of horned and tufted puffins in Alaska, and Washington and Oregon also have declining tufted puffin populations.

Trump Unveils Retirement Savings Plan.
President Trump announced a new retirement savings plan during his State of the Union address that would create new retirement accounts for American workers who lack employer-sponsored plans, with federal matching contributions of up to 1,000 dollars per year.
Roughly 56 million Americans currently lack access to a workplace retirement plan. The new accounts would be modeled on the Thrift Savings Plan used by federal employees, offering low fee index fund options and portability between jobs.
The proposal builds on the SECURE 2.0 Act, which already includes a Saver's Match provision set to take effect in 2027. That program offers eligible lower-income workers a 50 percent government match on up to 2,000 dollars in annual contributions.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the proposal would be rolled out “in the coming weeks and months,” framing the initiative as a tool to help working Americans “who have been left behind.”
Pentagon Sets Deadline for A I Military Access.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei a Friday deadline to grant the military unrestricted access to its A I model, Claude, or face termination of the company's 200 million dollars Pentagon contract.
Anthropic has insisted on guardrails preventing Claude from being used for mass surveillance of Americans or in lethal autonomous weapons systems without human oversight. The company argues the technology is not reliable enough for life or death decisions.
Pentagon officials warned they could invoke the Defense Production Act to compel compliance or designate Anthropic a "supply chain risk," effectively blacklisting the company from government work.
Until this week, Anthropic was the only A I company cleared to deploy its models on the Pentagon’s classified networks. Elon Musk’s xAI has now been designated as a second company after agreeing to allow its Grok model to be used on classified networks without restrictions.

I will repeat the Trivia Question for today: What does the term “WiFi” stand for?
And the answer is: Nothing, except maybe good marketing. It is NOT an acronym for “Wireless Fidelity,” as many people believe. The term was created by the Interbrand agency in 1999 as an easy, non-technical term for wireless communication. Otherwise, we’d be calling it “IEEE 802.11b Direct Sequence,” which doesn’t roll off the tongue.

Representative Al Green of Texas was escorted from the chamber for holding a sign accusing Trump of racism, while Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib repeatedly shouted at the president. Dozens of other Democrats boycotted the address entirely.
On Iran, Trump laid out a red line, declaring that Tehran cannot have a nuclear weapon. He said he preferred diplomacy but warned that Iran was developing missiles capable of reaching Europe and eventually the United States.
In what he described as "unrelenting" action by his administration, Trump talked about his numerous executive orders, including his plans to help the economy recover, with particular focus on new tariffs, and his administration's sweeping immigration reforms.
Trump welcomed the gold medal-winning U S men's Olympic hockey team into the chamber to roaring applause and announced that goalie Connor Hellebuyck would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He also awarded Medals of Honor to Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover, wounded in a raid on Venezuela, and 100-year-old Korean War veteran E. Royce Williams.
The president's wide-ranging address also covered tax cuts, the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, and a tribute to slain Christian conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Yesterday marked the final day of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, and Team USA’s men’s ice hockey team closed it with a 2 to 1 overtime win over Canada for gold. Team USA Tops Canada For Hockey Gold.
Team USA beat Canada 2 to 1 in an instant classic gold medal hockey match yesterday morning, a fitting bookend to close out the 2026 Winter Olympics. A heroic defensive effort in the third period forced overtime, setting up an iconic game-winning goal by 24 year-old Jack Hughes to give the Americans gold.
The final shot deserves headlines, but the game’s most valuable player may have been U S goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who made 41 saves in all, including a reach-back stop that some observers are hailing as one of the greatest saves ever.
"This is all about our country. I love the USA, I love my teammates,” said a teary-eyed (and now toothless) Jack Hughes after the game, “I’m so proud to be an American today.”
It’s the first U S gold medal in men’s hockey since the Miracle on Ice in 1980, ending a 46 year drought. It’s also the first time that the U S men’s and women’s teams have won gold in the same Olympics—both prevailing over the Canadians. Sore-ee!
Armed Intruder Killed at Mar-a-Lago.
A North Carolina man was shot and killed by Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County deputy after he entered the secure perimeter of President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate carrying a shotgun and a gas can.
Twenty-one-year-old Austin Tucker Martin drove into the secured area early Sunday morning as another vehicle was exiting. When confronted by agents, Martin put down the gas can but raised the shotgun, and law enforcement fired.
Martin's family reported him missing, and investigators believe he obtained the shotgun while traveling south to Florida. The president and First Lady were at the White House at the time of the incident.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praised the Secret Service's response and criticized Democrats for the partial government shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security.
Mexican Military Kills Drug Cartel Leader.
Mexican military forces killed Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes, the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, during a raid in western Mexico on Sunday.
The U S had a 15 million dollar bounty on the drug kingpin, whose organization was designated a foreign terrorist organization by the Trump administration last year.
The killing triggered violent cartel retaliation across multiple Mexican states, with burning roadblocks, gunfire, and chaos at airports paralyzing the region. Tourists in Puerto Vallarta were told to shelter in place, and several airlines canceled flights into the area.
The U S military confirmed it played a supporting intelligence role in the operation, though officials emphasized it was a Mexican-led effort. A former DEA chief called it one of the most significant actions in the history of drug trafficking.

A U S appeals court has cleared the way for a Louisiana law requiring poster-sized displays of the Ten Commandments in public classrooms to take effect.
The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals voted 12 to 6 to lift a block that a lower court first placed on the law in 2024. In the opinion released Friday, the court said it was too early to make a judgment call on the constitutionality of the law.
Critics argue the requirement violates the separation of church and state, while supporters say the Ten Commandments are historical and foundational to U S law.
In a concurring opinion, Circuit Judge James Ho wrote, "It is fully consistent with the Constitution, and what’s more, it reinforces our Founders’ firm belief that the children of America should be educated about the religious foundations and traditions of our country."

Whatever Happened To...
Whatever happened to ABC's Wide World of Sports?
ABC’s Wide World of Sports arrived on Saturday afternoons like a postcard from a bigger planet. Premiering on April 29th, 1961, the anthology format let ABC hopscotch from boxing to skiing to track—events most Americans rarely saw on television.
The concept is often credited to programmer Edgar Scherick, but the show’s signature feel, the cinematic storytelling, and the sense of globe-trotting spectacle were shaped by a young producer named Roone Arledge. Anchoring it all was Jim McKay, steady as a newsman and curious as a traveler.
In its early decades, Wide World became more than a time slot. It became a national ritual. The opening tease, “Spanning the globe…,” and the immortal tagline, “the thrill of victory… and the agony of defeat,” turned sports into weekly drama. You can see the opening credits from 1969 here.
Then the world changed. Cable arrived, and sports stopped being scarce. ESPN and other networks offered niche events around the clock, while premium rights consolidated into fewer, bigger packages. The very thing that made Wide World essential, its variety, became easier to find everywhere else. Add rising rights costs and shifting network priorities, and the anthology started to feel like a relic of a pre-cable era.
The last original episode aired on June 21st, 1997, and the show was canceled in early 1998, ending a 37-year run. What replaced it wasn’t a single show, but a new model: ESPN-driven, event-based programming, and eventually the ESPN-on-ABC identity.
In the end, Wide World of Sports didn’t so much collapse as get unbundled, absorbed, and rebranded by the sports media machine it helped invent.

Trump: Iran Decision in 10 Days.
President Trump said Thursday the outcome of nuclear talks with Iran will be decided over the next “probably 10 days,” as the Pentagon deploys one of the largest military buildups into the region since the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Two aircraft carriers, 13 warships, F-22 Raptors, F-15s, and dozens of fighter jets are converging on the Middle East, with full forces expected in place by mid-March.
Iran and Russia responded by launching joint naval drills in the Sea of Oman Thursday. Officials told Trump the military could be ready for strikes as early as this weekend, though no final decision has been made.

Five countries, including Indonesia, pledged troops for a 20,000 soldier international stabilization force.
Plans presented at the meeting include adding 400,000 new homes, 30 billion dollars in infrastructure, and a FIFA-funded 72 million dollars soccer complex featuring a stadium seating up to 25,000.
Trump also warned Hamas it would be “harshly met” if it doesn’t disarm, while Israel set a 60 day deadline for the group to surrender its weapons.
Former Prince Andrew Arrested.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former British royal prince and King Charles’s younger brother, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, making him the first senior British royal in modern history to be arrested.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The arrest stems from emails uncovered in the Epstein files released by the Department of Justice last month, which appear to show the former prince forwarding confidential British trade reports to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2010, while serving as Britain’s special envoy for international trade. He also allegedly shared a confidential brief on investment opportunities in Afghanistan.
Andrew, who turned 66 on Thursday, was released under investigation after 11 hours in custody. King Charles responded with a statement saying the law “must take its course.” The former prince has denied all wrongdoing.

Bayer Offers 7.25 Billion Dollars Roundup Settlement.
Bayer has proposed a 7.25 billion dollar class-action settlement to resolve tens of thousands of lawsuits alleging its Roundup weedkiller, containing the controversial herbicide glyphosate, caused non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The deal, filed in Saint Louis Circuit Court, would pay out claims over 21 years to people exposed to Roundup before this week who have been or will be diagnosed with that cancer.
Bayer has faced a flood of litigation since acquiring Monsanto in 2018 for 63 billion dollars and has already paid more than 10 billion dollars in prior verdicts and settlements. The German company still faces roughly 67,000 remaining claims.
The company, which has lobbied for a law protecting it from liability, maintains that Roundup is safe and admits no wrongdoing. The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on the issue in April.
Air Force One Getting a New Look.
The U S Air Force confirmed it will repaint the Air Force One presidential aircraft in President Trump's preferred red, white, dark blue, and gold color scheme, replacing the light blue and white design that has been in place since the Kennedy administration.

The first C-32 has already been repainted and is expected to be delivered in the coming months.
Trump initially proposed the redesign during his first term, but the Biden administration reversed it, citing concerns that darker colors could cause overheating on certain components.
Shiffrin Wins Gold After 8-Year Drought.
Mikaela Shiffrin dominated the women's slalom at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Wednesday, finishing 1.5 seconds ahead of the field, the largest margin in an Olympic women's slalom since 1998.
It's her third career Olympic gold, making her the only American alpine skier in history to hold three. The 30-year-old hadn't won an Olympic medal since 2018 and went 0-for-6 in Beijing four years ago, a stretch she later called her lowest point in the sport.
In Italy, a fourth-place finish in the combined and an 11th in giant slalom left her staring down her final event without a medal. Then she posted the fastest first run by nearly a full second and never looked back.

Good Morning! On this day in 1861, former U S Senator Jefferson Davis was inaugurated as provisional president of the Confederate States of America in Montgomery, Alabama.
As historic flooding swamped freeways and stranded self-driving cars across Southern California, one local decided to make the best of it: grabbing a wakeboard and hitching a ride down a flooded street behind a pickup truck.

Takeoff.
Ten Skiers Missing in California Avalanche.
An avalanche swept through the Castle Peak area near Truckee, California, on Tuesday, leaving 10 backcountry skiers missing and six others stranded at the site awaiting rescue.
The group of 16, including four guides and 12 clients, was hit around 11:30 a m during a powerful winter storm that dumped 30 inches of snow in 24 hours and brought gale-force winds to the Sierra Nevada.
Some 46 emergency responders from multiple agencies are battling blizzard conditions to reach survivors, as the dangerous weather impedes rescue efforts.
The Sierra Avalanche Center had warned against any backcountry travel before the slide, citing unstable snowpack and the likelihood of large natural avalanches. A snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche in the same area just last month.
Storms Batter Southern California.
A powerful winter storm slammed Southern California on Monday, flooding freeways, swamping businesses, and shattering daily rain records.
Water rose to the mid-door panels of cars in Westwood, and a pair of self-driving Waymos got stranded in the flood. One driver in Commerce had to be pulled out of her car through the window as waters surged around her vehicle.
Business owners in Los Angeles' Fairfax District blamed the city for a sluggish emergency response, saying a water-pumping truck sat idle because no one was there to operate it.
One local found a silver lining, wakeboarding down a flooded street behind a pickup truck. Two more storms are expected this week, with up to 8 feet of snow possible in the mountains.
Reverant Jesse Jackson Dies at 84.

A protégé of King's, Jackson founded the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and became one of the most prominent and controversial voices in the American civil rights movement for over five decades.

I will repeat the Trivia Question for today: What’s the strongest bone in the human body?
And the answer is: The femur is the longest, heaviest and strongest bone in the body, connecting the hip joint to the knee joint. Its immense size is directly related to its primary function: transferring the body’s weight and forces from the torso to the lower legs during movement and rest. Its strength allows it to support forces estimated to be 30 times the body weight of an average adult human without fracturing.
